and to address unmet needs of individuals, groups, and communities. To usher in transformational thinking which yields responses designed to empower people to become active participants in the process of collaborative change; thereby, building healthy communities.
Together, we must all honestly identify the glaring unmet needs in the environment of our communities. LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR has identified S. 11th St in Gadsden, Alabama as the first initiative. There are significant environmental issues-as it relates to the safety and overall state of the area-located on a major thoroughfare leading into our city. Additionally, we have one high school and our youth who have no transportation cannot reach it without significant risk to their safety. Currently, we are communicating values of who we are and what we value when blight and unsightly areas serve as beacons of who we really are. Gadsden’s motto, “A City of Champions”, must be more than words but reflect our values and vision for this city.
Moving forward, together, our community will make a lasting difference in the lives of all. Coming together in one heart, soul, and spirit, we will create a movement born out of true love of God and each other resulting in the power to forge vibrant communities which can realize lasting success in the challenges before us.
The MOVEMENT includes exploring areas that will offer an opportunity for LYN to bring in people from all arenas to coalesce and expand upon a common need that exists to serve the many and advance initiatives that will have a lasting and indelible impact on the quality of life of any area that appears to be on the margins of life. Every man, woman, boy, and girl in Etowah county is invited to be a “FRIEND OF LYN”.
LYN has formalized the MOVEMENT down to manageable units called Advisory Teams led by community leaders. Those leaders are coalescing with many others to identify unmet needs in the community and advance a corrective action plan that will provide manpower, resources, money, equipment and technical skills to achieve remedy, thereby fulfilling the purpose of the LYN mission.
